I was employed at Interactive Gold, a company owned by Golden Casket,
as their 3d artist responsible for creating the 3d graphics needed for
their interactive online gambling site being released in late 2000. Initially
I was required to create photo realistic representation of four table games
(Blackjack, Roulette, Sicbo and Baccarat) and six similar slot machines using Lightwave.
After these were completed, it was decided to take these new graphics and
integrate them into existing games, rather than code new games to match
the graphics. So, taking my original 3d scenes and objects, I modified
and re-rendered them with a view to "re-skinning" several existing table
games by simply replacing the image files contained within the games. After
the re-skinning was done to the best possible degree, I also began tweaking
the game code to optimize the new imagery, resulting in games far improved
on the originals.
This allowed a quick turnaround on these enhanced games which were
scheduled for the second release of the site, but now were forseeably ready
for the site premiere.
Unfortunately, this company's workings were halted indefinitly in August
2000 after a Government moratorium on internet gambling in Australia was
introduced, preventing any company from receiving an online gambling license
until a total ban was investigated.
